Which oils are NOT safe to use around animals?

Oils that are harmful to cats include, but are not limited to:

  • Wintergreen
  • Sweet birch
  • Citrus (d-limonene)
  • Pine
  • Ylang ylang
  • Peppermint
  • Cinnamon
  • Pennyroyal
  • Clove
  • Eucalyptus
  • Tea tree (melaleuca)
  • Thyme
  • Oregano
  • Lavender

Oils that are harmful to dogs include, but are not limited to:

  • Anise (Pimpinella anisum)
  • Birch (Betula)
  • Bitter Almond (Prunus dulcis)
  • Calamus (Acorus calamus)
  • Cassia (cassia fistula)
  • Chenopodium (Chenopodium album)
  • Garlic
  • Juniper (Juniperus sp. with the exception of the Juniper Berry)
  • Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)
  • Mustard (Brassica Juncea)
  • Oregano (Origanum Vulgare)
  • Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium)
  • Red or White Thyme
  • Sweet birch
  • Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare)
  • Tea tree (Melaleuca)
  • Terebinth (Pistacia Palaestina)
  • Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens)
